Surrender Prayer of the Night to my Guardian Angel
My nightly prayer as I fall asleep, mostly for me to store somewhere.

Now I lay my body down to sleep.
I surrender it to the Earth —
to her breath and her gravity,
to the slow tides of stars and the silent gaze of the moon.
I release my grasp on all things.
I loosen the hand of my will.
I offer myself to the angels of the night,
to the great weaving beyond me.
And my soul,
I place it at the feet of my Guardian,
gifted to me by the endless love of God.
Guardian of my soul,
receive me as a child tonight.
Teach me in my dreaming.
Train me in the ways hidden from waking eyes.
Reveal to me what you wish me to learn.
Show me how to learn,
how to listen,
how to become more awake.
Light and guard me,
rule and guide me,
as I now pass through the gates of sleep.
Know my mind. Calm my thoughts. Calm my heart.
May my dreaming be a holy apprenticeship —
an opening of my heart,
a yielding of my soul,
to be trained by your hands.
Mother Mary,
Clad in green,
Keep me safely
While I dream.
